Black Students’ Guide to Leicester 2026/2027

The University of Leicester, De Montfort University and the City of Leicester are proudly home to an incredibly diverse student population which includes many Black students. A large part of settling into a new town is being able to find amenities and services that can help you feel like part of the community and the sooner students can feel settled, the better experience they have in their new living situation. The better their initial experience, the more likely they are to continue their journey further into Higher Education and research.

To help Black students settle into Leicester as soon as possible, the University of Leicester and De Montfort’s Students’ Union have collaborated on a Black Students’ Guide to Leicester, which has been funded by LIAS through the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland scheme. The guide provides students with peer-recommended and reviewed businesses and services such as grocery shops, hairdressers and barbers, and community groups, to help Black students find them when they first arrive in our City.
